Jamais assez

Jamais assez

I found that the same themes of energy and the power in mass that were at the heart of this choreographic project, were echoed in Michael Madsen’s  documentary Into Eternity.

The film is about the building of Onkalo, a nuclear waste repository in Finland, where spent fuel will be buried over a period of 100 years and remain so for 100,000 years.

It raises the issue of humanity’s ability to fathom its own future, and forces us to reconsider our conceptions of time and the idea of eternity.

I don’t want to tell the story of Onkalo. What I’m interested in is contemporary mythology, the fantasy of an extremely long-lived project which would outlive mankind—juxtaposed with instant gratification, that highly contemporary value, which also represents a huge risk…

This present is constantly unfolding—it is the ephemeral body of the dancer.

Or rather the dancers: Jamais Assez is a piece about accumulation, exceeding limits, the multiplicity of movements, information, images, choices…

Jamais Assez is a mass of explosives, the antithesis of encapsulation, of the void born of the impossibility of picturing this cavity that is Onkalo. It’s the representation of this unknown, this void, which will be explored using bodies, objects, spaces, images and lights.
