EPURRS

Creation 2021

EPURRS is a 50-minute piece for the stage that puts the spotlight on Krump. It was premiered in October 2021 at the Maison de la Musique de Nanterre.

EPURRS 360 is a 25-minute version. It's a piece for non-stage spaces (outdoor/indoor space, schoolyard, gymnasium, warehouse, town square, street...). It premiered in July 2021 on the forecourt of the Centre des Bords de Marne - Le Perreux sur Marne.

EPURRS is the result of the meeting between Fabrice Lambert, Wilfried Blé (Wolf) and Alexandre Moreau (Cyborg). Their exchange led to the desire to write a piece for the stage questioning krump and its culture today. The word krump stands for Kingdom Radically Uplifted Mighty Praise. EPURRS is its french acronym.

In this duet, the shared commitment that unites the dancers is paramount and give to its vocabulary a bubbling richness. It's a question of challenge, certainly, but never of violence, rather of circulating support. A great intensity emerges from the bodies, a ball of energy that the dancers pass on to each other, creating a liberating playfulness. It's a human charge that breaks loose, becomes supportive and, above all, empathetic.

This encounter gives vigour and meaning to all the battles that dance is waging today, and to its audiences.

KRUMP

The KRUMP street dance was born shortly after the 1992 Los Angeles riots. This dance offered inner-city youth a way to externalize and channel their emotions. It enabled them to evolve in a protective space, far from social and racial violence and safe from gangs.

Ceasare Laron Willis aka Tight Eyez and Jo' Artis Ratti aka Big Mijo are considered the founding fathers of krump. Today, krump is danced all over the world in a variety of contexts, with the aim of furthering the movement's energy and solidarity.
